Connect Slack and share changelog posts to channels

Connect your Slack workspace, add channels, and announce changelog posts in Slack when you publish.

Connect Slack to announce your changelog posts in the channels your team already uses. This article walks through the setup step by step.

Before you start

  • You need permission to manage integrations in the project.

  • Slack broadcasts and the number of Slack channels you can connect depend on your plan. If something is not available, Releaseo shows a message when you try.

Connect your workspace

  1. Open Integrations in the sidebar and choose Slack.

  2. Select Connect Slack workspace.

  3. Slack asks you to approve Releaseo for your workspace. Approve it.

  4. You return to Releaseo, which confirms "Slack workspace connected." The workspace card shows your team name, a Connected status and the date you connected.

If the connection is not completed, Releaseo tells you "Slack connection was not completed." Start again from step 2.

Add channels

  1. Under your workspace, select Add channel.

  2. In Add Slack channels, use Search channels to find a channel, for example "releases".

  3. Tick one or more channels. Channels you already added show an Added chip.

  4. Select Add channels. The button shows the count, such as Add 2 channels.

Public channels appear automatically. Private channels show with a lock and need an invite first. In Slack, run /invite @Releaseo in the channel, then refresh the list. If Releaseo isn't in a channel yet when it tries to post, the error tells you to do the same.

If the workspace has too many channels to list at once, refine your search to find the rest.

Manage a channel

Each channel appears as a card with an Enabled or Disabled switch. The card shows the channel, whether Changelog posts are turned on, and the Last delivery time (or "Never" before the first one). Private channels carry a Private chip.

Open the card's actions menu for:

  • Configure: opens Slack channel settings. You can change the Name and Description, and use Publish changelog posts to this channel to decide whether new published posts go there. Select Save Slack settings when done.

  • Test: sends a test message so you can check the channel works.

  • Remove: stops publishing to that channel. The Slack app stays installed in your workspace.

Share a post to Slack

Slack channels that have Publish changelog posts to this channel turned on can receive your posts.

  1. Open a changelog post and save it as a draft first. Until then, the post settings ask you to save the draft before choosing channels.

  2. In the post's settings, find Share to Slack. Tick the channels that should receive this post. The section reads "Selected channels will receive this post when you publish it."

  3. Select publish. In Publish update, the Share to Slack checkbox shows the channel count, for example "Share to Slack (2 channels)". It is ticked by default. Untick it to skip Slack for this publish.

Scheduled posts use the post's saved Slack, Discord and email settings.

If the Share to Slack section says Slack is not connected, connect your workspace first. If it says no channels are subscribed to changelog broadcasts, turn on Publish changelog posts to this channel on at least one channel.

Reconnect or disconnect

If Releaseo is uninstalled from your Slack workspace, the page shows a banner and a Disconnected status. Select Reconnect to resume publishing. Your channels are preserved.

To stop all Slack publishing, select Disconnect on the workspace card and confirm. Messages already posted stay in Slack, and your channel settings are kept in case you reconnect.

Use Slack for notifications too

A connected channel can also receive notification triggers, such as new feature requests. Open Notification triggers and use Notifications on a trigger to choose the channel.

Troubleshooting

  • A private channel doesn't show up. Run /invite @Releaseo in that channel, then refresh the channel list.

  • The Share to Slack checkbox is missing from Publish update. The post has no eligible Slack channels. Check that the workspace is connected and a channel has changelog posts turned on.

  • A channel shows Disabled. Switch it to Enabled on the card.
